We weren’t sure what to expect from our audience when we decided to launch the Enyata community earlier this year. The team launched the Slack channel after many deliberations, and less than a week later, to our astonishment, we had over 2,000 people who chose to identify with Enyata as community members.
It has been more than eight months since our launch, and we thought it would be helpful to inform you of our achievements and the difficulties we have had in building an African developer community.
The Community Roadmap
Our concept of the world’s largest tech community was somewhat unique compared to the common perception. We set out to create the most active community possible so that developers could find the best mentors, opportunities, partners for support and accountability, and educational tools. We started planning weekly community activities and events, including community AMAs, seminars, and tech training with renowned tech experts.
Although we had the activities up and running, we noticed people quickly became overwhelmed or lost in the hubbub of activities in a community with so much energy and enthusiasm. This called for our weekly community roundup, a newsletter summary of all that took place in the community.
To keep our members further interested, we developed our resource library, which is always updated based on user requests and input and comprises all the instructional materials to help developers get started in tech. Additionally, we figured that forming strategic alliances with other tech firms is an excellent way to add value for our members. To date, we have been able to collaborate with communities like AR/VR Africa, HubOne by FCMB, and others.
Community podcasts were another idea we had in the works that suddenly gained prominence. Our community members were blown away by the calibre of the speakers, and it all of a sudden became popular for them to submit questions in advance for the featured guest.
We have so far succeeded in creating a vibrant community of more than 3,000 members by consistently adding value to them over time.
What Success Looks Like For Us
Achievement for the entire community is reached when its members achieve success in their chosen fields and in their careers as a whole.
We have a significant number of success tales on file. Here are a few of them in text and images.
“After receiving the MacBook, I’ve been able to learn how to engineer software better. The spec of the laptop has also helped in installing some heavy software that normally would have been hanging. I think the most important part was that it gave me room for more opportunities — opportunities to learn any part of tech and develop anything.
I’ve gone ahead to work as a mobile engineer for Impresanera, writing cross-platform applications, worked briefly as a backend engineer for Whipik Stories, and currently work at Interswitch Group as a DevOps Engineer. I’m really grateful to Enyata for speeding up my tech journey.”__Ifedayo Adesiyan.
It is amazing to see what we have accomplished with the domain that we refer to as our community. We have forged ties with people from all over the country.
We are excited to see how far we can advance, say, over the next five years, have been intentional about creating a safe atmosphere for developers and young professionals in Africa. You can collaborate with us to assist our community, or you can get engaged by just joining the community.
